It is in this valley that 3/4 of our vineyards are located. Talus Saint Prix is the historical and family heart of our domain; it's a small village of around a hundred inhabitants, with 40 hectares in the appellation.
In the south-western extension of the Côte des Blancs and on the northern outskirts of the Côte de Sézanne, Les Coteaux du Petit Morin has a unique terroir of clay-limestone mixed with flint, millstone and white marl. While Côte des Blancs and Côte de Sézanne are predominantly planted with Chardonnay, Talus Saint Prix has over 60% Meunier in its appellation area. The explanation lies in the Petit Morin itself; a tributary of the Marne, it is an essential factor for the valley's vineyards. It brings coolness and humidity to the surrounding vines, particularly in spring, making them vulnerable to the risk of late frosts. Meunier is a slightly later-starting grape variety, and a little more resistant to frost, making it an obvious choice for our region.
The domain has recently expanded into the neighbouring village of Oyes, which is sandier, and into Congy, with a very small plot planted with an old grape variety, Petit Meslier, which was forgotten for decades because it was difficult to ripen.
